Consultation:
What’s your view on which areas require stronger oversight under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law?
- Meeting job requirements for persons with disabilities
- Physical and digital accessibility
- فرص التعليم والتدريب للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة
After analyzing the submissions, the results were as follows:
45.2% voted for meeting job requirements.
27.7% voted for physical and digital accessibility.
27.1% voted for education and training opportunities.
Decisions and impact:
The results indicate that employment remains the most prominent obstacle to empowering persons with disabilities, necessitating more effective oversight interventions. Accordingly, the Committee for Reviewing Violations under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law will proceed as follows, through the competent department at the Authority, by initiating and addressing related violations as set out below:
- Submitting the reported violations related to employment and the work environment to the Committee to impose the statutory penalties accordingly. The Committee will also, based on public feedback, identify the key obstacles in employing persons with disabilities.
Intensifying oversight activities on violations related to employment and the work environment, and imposing penalties in cases where persons with disabilities are deprived of the rights and services stipulated in the law, in addition to curbing the enactment of policies that would result in direct or indirect discrimination on the basis of disability.
This will result in non-governmental entities adhering to the core principles set out in Article (2) of the Law, and in imposing penalties on them if persons with disabilities are deprived of the rights and services provided for in the Law, in addition to limiting the enactment of policies that would lead to direct or indirect discrimination on the basis of disability.
