The Authority of Persons with Disabilities organized a ceremony in Riyadh to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is observed annually on December 3rd. The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, Eng. Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al-Rajhi, and was attended by a number of Their Excellencies, representatives of government entities, the private sector, the non-profit sector, as well as a group of persons with disabilities and their families. The ceremony witnessed the launch of the “Say It Right” campaign, introduced by the Authority with the aim of promoting the correct use of the term “persons with disabilities” across various fields. The campaign seeks to raise public awareness and reinforce the officially adopted terminology that reflects respect for identity and rights, and supports comprehensive inclusion. In his speech, His Excellency the Assistant Minister, Mr. Ismail Al-Ghamdi, affirmed that, with the support of the wise leadership, the Kingdom continues to empower persons with disabilities and enhance their full participation in education, employment, and services, while expanding their access to different fields in a way that advances greater inclusion and improves their quality of life. The Chief Executive Officer of the Authority of Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Hisham Al-Haidari, explained that the Authority is working in an integrated manner with various sectors by enhancing services and developing policies that improve the quality of services provided to persons with disabilities and enable them across different domains. This is in addition to supporting initiatives that contribute to better accessibility and inclusion, and that foster community awareness. The ceremony also featured a number of segments that reinforced the concept of using the correct terminology and helped spread awareness about the importance of adopting the officially approved term, in a way that strengthens the principles of inclusion and supports the full participation of persons with disabilities in all cultural and social events. It is worth noting that the Authority of Persons with Disabilities is working to enhance the quality and efficiency of services provided to persons with disabilities, in coordination with various sectors, in order to achieve the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 related to empowering persons with disabilities and building an inclusive society with equal opportunities. This year’s theme for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities”, which underscores the participation of persons with disabilities in all fields and supports their independence.
