The Authority for Persons with Disability launched today the sixth edition of the “Purple Saturday” initiative, with broad participation from government entities, the private sector, and the non-profit sector. This comes within the Authority’s efforts to enhance the integration of persons with disabilities and enable them to benefit from services and commercial offers in more inclusive environments and greater accessibility.
The initiative aims to encourage retail shops and commercial and service establishments to provide tailored discounts, offers, and benefits for persons with disabilities. It also seeks to raise awareness of their needs and promote the application of accessibility standards—helping improve the quality of services provided to them and strengthening their active participation in various aspects of life.
The sixth edition of the initiative builds on the successes it has achieved since its launch in 2021. It has seen continuous expansion in both its scope and the number of participating entities. It is no longer limited to the Kingdom level, as a number of GCC countries are participating in this year’s edition—reflecting the growing impact of the initiative and the widening of its regional reach. The Authority looks forward to continuing this expansion in the coming years—God willing—to further strengthen the initiative’s presence on the global stage, so it can become a leading model for empowering persons with disabilities, enhancing their integration, and spreading best practices in inclusion and accessibility.
The Authority also launched this year’s “Purple Saturday” Award, which aims to recognize outstanding entities and individuals for their support of the initiative and for strengthening its impact. The award includes four tracks: Best Commercial Offer, Best Initiative Event, Non-Profit Sector Initiative, and Coverage/Participation by Persons with Disabilities.
The Authority emphasized that the “Purple Saturday” initiative represents one of the leading national initiatives that contributes to strengthening partnerships with various sectors and reinforcing the concepts of inclusion and empowerment—consistent with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 toward an inclusive, enabled society with equal opportunities.
