The Authority of Persons with Disabilities Hosts the Arab Conference on Accessible Tourism for Persons with Disabilities in Riyadh

The Authority of Persons with Disabilities, in cooperation with the League of Arab States, hosted the High-Level Arab Conference on Accessible Tourism for Persons with Disabilities, with the participation of a select group of officials, experts, and representatives of international and regional organizations. The two-day conference is being held from 12–13 November 2025 at the Mövenpick Hotel in Riyadh. The conference aims to promote the concept of inclusive tourism for persons with disabilities and to exchange experiences and best practices in the fields of rehabilitation, accessibility, assistive technologies, and innovation in tourism services. This contributes to advancing the principles of inclusion and empowerment, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The opening session was attended by Dr. Hisham Al-Heidari, CEO of the Authority for the Care of Persons with Disabilities; H.E. Dr. Khaled Hanafy, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Chambers; H.E. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport; and H.E. Minister Plenipotentiary Tarek Nabil Al-Nabulsi, Director of the Department of Development and Social Policies at the League of Arab States. The first day included sessions that addressed a range of topics, most notably: Inclusive tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, and the Authority for the Care of Persons with Disabilities. Universal design across the tourism ecosystem, with contributions from experts from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and a number of specialists in design, infrastructure, transportation, accommodation, and digital accessibility. On the second day, participants discussed several specialized themes, including: Inclusive sports and recreational tourism, with the participation of the Ministry of Sport, the General Entertainment Authority, and a number of Paralympic athletes. Technology and artificial intelligence to enhance accessible tourism, with the participation of experts from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. A roundtable titled “Towards an Arab Strategy for Accessible Tourism,” which brought together representatives of the League of Arab States, the Union of Arab Chambers, and the Arab Academy. The roundtable concluded with the drafting of the Riyadh Declaration on Inclusive Tourism, which underscored the importance of developing a unified Arab strategy to advance accessible tourism. The conference represents a key milestone in entrenching the concept of accessible tourism as one of the drivers of economic and social development. It also reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities and enhancing their presence across various fields at both the local and regional levels.
