The Authority of Persons with Disabilities (APD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Events Center to enhance cooperation in developing national event environments to be more inclusive and accessible for persons with disabilities, improving their experience and enabling their effective participation in the sector. The MoU also covers the exchange of knowledge, technical expertise, and enablement practices in related fields, ensuring complementarity of roles between both parties in line with their respective mandates, and documenting cooperation efforts and showcasing key partnership outcomes through approved channels, subject to the necessary approvals from both sides. The MoU outlines several key areas of collaboration, including: exchanging expertise; organizing capacity-building workshops; and improving the quality of experiences delivered during major seasons and events. It also provides for joint coordination to develop accessibility standards by preparing regulatory and physical environments that enhance inclusive participation and ensure a better experience for persons with disabilities. The agreement further supports awareness-raising media efforts to strengthen public understanding, and includes cooperation on launching professional programs that contribute to sustainable employment opportunities within the events sector. It also sets out the development of an effective mechanism for receiving and addressing feedback and complaints from persons with disabilities during major seasons and events. This MoU contributes to elevating public awareness of the importance of integrating persons with disabilities across public life—particularly within event environments—reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to the values of inclusion and equity. It fosters a more receptive and informed community culture regarding the needs of persons with disabilities, and encourages organizers to adopt standards that ensure universal access and enhance the quality of experience for all. The impact of this cooperation extends to further highlighting the Kingdom’s position as a leader in respecting diversity and ensuring equitable empowerment for all segments of society. The MoU comes as part of APD’s and the National Events Center’s efforts to enhance quality of life and enable persons with disabilities to benefit from the major seasons and events hosted by the Kingdom, in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 objectives to promote inclusivity and social equity.
